Kathryn Blackie
Dartmoor Navigation Trainer |
|
I work with adults and young people, teaching navigation to groups and individuals on and around Dartmoor. Activities range from leading walks to teaching basic and advanced navigation to camp-craft skills. The experiences offered by activities on and around the moor promote independence, challenge, imagination, team-work and co-operation in students of all ages.
Current training I am involved with includes:
- Map Reading & Navigation Awareness courses for Devon & Cornwall Police's Lost Person Search Managers, Search Teams and other operational officers.
- Ten Tors training for Tavistock & District Youth Forum.
- National Navigation Award Scheme courses for some specialist Police officers, young people assisting with Ten Tors training, and other individuals.
- Assisting with the assessment of potential trainee recruits for Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team (Tavistock) and ongoing training of successful recruits.
I regularly offer open courses; but can also offer courses for groups on dates to suit their needs. For example, I am currently training the Police Search Advisers of Devon & Cornwall Police. Some of the officers are doing the 2-day Bronze award course. Others are attending a specially created 4-hour Map Reading & Navigation Awareness course. Please contact me if you would like to arrange similar training or to discuss your navigation training needs.
